Nightlife Hours Extended | New Law | Panama City, Panama

In order to promote entertainment tourism and strengthen the nighttime economy in the City of Panama, Mayor Mizrachi has issued Mayoral Decree No. 12-2024, popularly known as the "Eggplant Decree." This regulation governs the operating hours of commercial establishments whose main activity is the sale of alcoholic beverages.

What does the mayor's decree establish?

Although the decree does not modify the general hours for businesses, it does introduce special nighttime recreation areas, where certain businesses may operate without time restrictions.


General hours for commercial establishments:

Sunday to Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. the following day.

Thursday to Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. the following day.


Nightlife areas

In these areas, establishments classified under level 2 of article 2-A of Law 55 of 1973, which have the corresponding permits, may operate without time limits. The designated areas are:


  • The Amador Causeway, from Van Hock Street to Flamenco Island

  • Casco Viejo aka Old Town of Panama
